Money Troubles
Contrary to what you may think, getting a role on a hit show doesn’t make you wealthy right away. After her appearance on American Horror Story, she fell on hard times. At one point, she had to rely on the kindness of her friends to get by. They hosted her for free and encouraged her to go on additional auditions. When she couldn’t get any roles and couldn’t afford acting classes, they volunteered to go through lines with her. She was deep in credit card debt when the role of Kate came knocking.
This Is Us
Seeing the script for This Is Us, Metz felt an instant connection with Kate. She was desperate to audition, as she related to Kate’s struggles with obesity and feeling inadequate all the time. Even the audition felt different, like she was already part of the show. And she did become a part of the show!
